Julie A. Huffman, MA, CCC-SLP

Julie Huffman is a speech-language pathologist with 29 years of clinical experience in medical settings.  

She currently works at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC where she serves as Clinical Preceptor. She provides dysphagia evaluation and treatment, as well as mentoring, in a variety of settings with current focuses in outpatient rehabilitation, acute care, skilled  nursing, and long term care.  

She has had a special interest in esophageal disorders and their impact on oropharyngeal swallowing for the last 22 years.  She has been instrumental in implementing protocols to include consideration of the esophagus for both FEES and MBS studies throughout her hospital and around the country. 

Julie has been teaching on dysphagia, esophageal disorders, and FEES nationally and internationally for over 18 years and has taught thousands of SLPs.  She is regarded as a leading expert in this area. She was honored to be an invited speaker at the 2018 ASHA convention in Boston. She taught at the NC Healthcare Symposium in 2020.

Julie is a  graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo and Geneseo.
